Europe has brought us French cuisine, outdoor cafes and the Working Time Regulations. It is
even more difficult to follow than the group stages of the European Champions League. The
careful and considerate employer should take care not to fall foul of the vast array of regulations
revolving around hours worked, breaks taken and holidays due. If you are not sure by now, you

Annual Leave ' After 13 weeks in the job, all employees are entitled to four weeks
paid leave per year. This excludes Bank Holidays
(happily or unhappily, depending on your perspective)
48 hour week ' Workers cannot work more than 48 hours per week over a seventeen week
period, unless they agree otherwise in writing ' and they can withdraw their agreement.
