All pregnant employees are entitled to 52 weeks maternity leave, if their baby was expected to
be born after 1st April 2007. There is no minimum length of service required.

Gone are the days when women were sacked for becoming pregnant. This is automatic unfair
dismissal and will also give rise to a sex discrimination claim.

You are entitled to return to work before the end of statutory maternity leave by giving your
employer 8 weeks notice. If the week your baby was expected to be born started before
1st April 2007, you only have to give 28 days notice.

You have a right to return to work at the end of the maternity leave, safe in the knowledge that
your contract of employment has continued to run throughout your maternity leave.

Except your right to wages.
